Many clients have come to me when they experience burdens or hardships. And often they mention to me that they feel like committing suicide.
I would normally tell them “No, don’t commit suicide! Before you commit suicide, think of:
1. How much the cost to buy a coffin is;
2. How much the cost of organising a funeral is;
3. How much the cost of a burial is; and
4. How many people now will be left upset because of your death!”
On a more serious note, I can understand if anyone (including you maybe) ever feels like committing suicide. I had once found myself in a very desperate situation, and with no family member to turn to. I almost stepped over the ledge of a tall building, when another person suddenly was free-falling past in front of me. He jumped down from a floor right above me (it was not a sport, he was actually committing suicide). That man surely ‘woke me up’.
I’m glad to say that I managed to pick myself up afterwards. How grateful am I that I did not make that jump. So far I have managed to help a lot of people with my astrology, and raise a beautiful family too. And I am still powering ahead.
I identify below the common reasons why people contemplate suicidal thoughts. And ‘my two cents’ if you fall within any of this category.
Reason: Love breakups.
My Two Cents: Start out your new life by channeling your love out to other people, be it family, friends or even strangers. Giving your love is the greatest gift you can give to this world and you will be rewarded for it. No one in this world is worth dying for.
Reason: Career and work related stress.
My Two Cents: Quit your job or work immediately. You are not within the right path. Start a new life by finding a career meaningful to you. No job in this world is worth dying for.
Reason: Financial stress or Bankruptcy.
My Two Cents: You may feel that you are now at the lowest cycle of your life. Consider yourself lucky as the only way ahead now is upwards. If you can read this article (by having internet access), then my guess is you are in a much better position than 20% of the world who lived below $1.25 a day (1). Did you know Donald Trump at one point in his life struck himself, that he was $900 million poorer than a beggar he saw down the road?
Reason: No particular reason.
My Two Cents: Find a local psychologist or psychiatrist immediately. This is a medical issue (often hormonal). Most often you would require prescription and medication to counteract those suicidal thoughts.
Having suicidal thoughts often mean that it is time for you to start the act of giving. Go and do the following:
1. Spend some money to treat yourself doing something that you always long for but never had a chance to do. This could be anything from realising childhood dreams (riding an elephant), meeting your idol (Oprah or Muhammad Ali), or traveling aspirations (roam around old Europe, see the penguins in the Arctic, etc).
2. Give your body the love that it needs. Your body needs health. Do some exercise and eat fresh food.
3. Spend some money to treat other people. Start with your closest family members or friends.
4. If you had no money, go to your nearest Red Cross centre and donate your blood. Nothing is more personal and noble than giving your blood to a stranger. One blood donation saves three lives! (2)
5. If you cannot find a Red Cross centre near you, then go and become a volunteer at your local community. Go and help raise funds for social cause. Go and clean up the local streets if you must.
6. Give, give and give. And you will be given.
Life has a funny way in expressing its true beauty. All fulfilled people I know, only became fulfilled after they experience great difficulties. The greater the difficulties, the more fulfilled they become.
Lastly you must ask yourself, ‘What is the worst that can happen?’
You are at the lowest point of your life.The only way ahead now is upwards.
